<text>This set of two maps, drawn up in 1878, shows in great detail the presence of different ethnicities in Russia, both north and south. These ethnicities are shown by color, and in the legend are grouped according to larger ethnic groups. For example, Great Russians, Little Russians, White Russians, Bulgarians, and Poles are grouped under the heading "Slavic Tribes."

For the purposes of this podcast, it is easy to see that in the Southeast portions of the map, where the worst of the civil unrest (and its accompanying murder and arson) was happening, these are areas where a great many non-slavic ethnicities from different ethnic families were living in diverse parity, but in no part of that area were slavs dominant.

An interesting thing to note is that in the Caucasus, there is a blue area indicating Georgian territory. In the legend, these Georgians are not in the same ethnic family as the rest of the groups in the Caucasus; rather they are listed as Iberian in lineage. </text>
